Plastic Free July
Plastic Free July is a global movement that aims to reduce plastic pollution and raise awareness about the impact of plastic on the environment. This month-long event encourages us all to make a commitment to reduce the use of single-use plastics and find more sustainable alternatives.
The Plastic Free July campaign was started in 2011 by the Western Metropolitan Regional Council in Perth, Australia, and has since grown to become a worldwide movement. The campaign provides resources and tools to help people reduce their plastic footprint, such as tips for reducing plastic waste at home and in the workplace, information on eco-friendly products, and ideas for organising plastic-free events.
Plastic pollution is a major environmental issue that affects oceans, wildlife, and human health. Plastic waste takes hundreds of years to decompose and can harm marine life that mistakes it for food or becomes entangled in plastic debris. By reducing our use of single-use plastics, we can help protect the environment and reduce our carbon footprint.
During Plastic Free July, individuals and organisations are encouraged to make a commitment to reducing their plastic use. This can include bringing reusable bags to the grocery store, using a refillable water bottle instead of buying bottled water, saying no to plastic straws, and avoiding single-use plastics such as plastic cutlery and takeaway containers.
In addition to reducing plastic waste, Plastic Free July also promotes the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as reusable cloth bags, bamboo cutlery, and glass or metal food containers. These alternatives are not only better for the environment, but they can also be more cost-effective in the long run.
By participating in Plastic Free July, we can make a positive impact on the environment and raise awareness about the importance of reducing plastic pollution. Together, we can create a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations.
