About The Package Free Larder (PFL)

The PFL is Portsmouth's 1st plastic-free supermarket and operates as a non-profit CIC. We are predominantly run by volunteers in the shop and on the PFL volunteer committee, with 3 part-time paid staff members to support the smooth daily operations and management of shop volunteers. Sales from the shop are reinvested back into the daily running of organisation, such as purchasing, staff wages and general maintenance and development.

We opened in July 2020 after a successful crowdfunding campaign where our volunteer committee members raised £43,765 from 905 donations in 56 days. From the very beginning and still today, the community of Portsmouth gives us the support we need to exist and grow.

The direction and upper management of the PFL is steered by a committee of voluntary members, of whom the paid managers report to. Each committee member is responsible for their own workstream, such as finance, HR, products & suppliers, marketing, education and outreach and general developmental projects.

Our goal is to reduce plastic waste at the source, build a strong and resilient community of like-minded environmentally-conscious people and to be an inclusive and ethical place to work and volunteer. Joining the PFL team as a shop manager means taking part in this goal and working together to grow the PFL.

We wish you all the best in applying!
